This is a great curry to make in late summer when the tomatoes are coming to an end and seem better off cooked, and multi colored eggplants are in abundance. I love the way the cooked eggplant here becomes so soft and succulent that it melts in your mouth; the aromatic spices and tangy tomatoes are a nice contrast to their buttery texture. (more…)

Emptying the compost was one of my chores as a child, it meant carrying the full bucket up the hill and dumping it onto the great mound at the end of the garden, then hosing the bucket out and picking a handful of pennyroyal mint to put in the bottom, so that while it sat under the kitchen sink it smelt nice.
Both my parents are enthusiastic composters, my father starts one where ever he lives and my mother buries special biodynamic herbal preparations in hers.  (more…)
